Timber Care

Many of our timber products benefit from periodic care which will ensure your piece remains lustrous and beautiful for years to come. When we ship your item, we'll tell you how to take care of it so that you can enjoy it for as long as you like. In general, a regular dust and a light spray and wipe off of furniture polish every few weeks is enough to keep your piece looking amazing.

Toys and Other Items for Children

Our toys and other timber products that are designed for children are manufactured to ensure their safety. We round off sharp corners, use water-based paint and ensure that there are no screws, nails or other parts included that could break off and injure your child. Additionally, we steer clear of small elements that could be ingested in the unlikely event that they do come loose. Our items for kids are finished with grapeseed oil that is food safe and specifically designed for chopping boards and other items that may come into contact with food. Items finished in this product, like Robbie the Robot, can be licked or chewed with no ill effects at all.

Furniture

Our furniture items are generally finished with multiple coats of Danish oil, using a process we've developed over the years. This finish is perfect for horizontal surfaces such as desks or tables, looks like glass and should last forever as it serves as an additional barrier to the timber. If the sheen diminishes at all due to being in direct sunlight or damage occurs to the surface, it simply needs cleaning and another coat (or coats) applying to bring it back to life. We have clients that have owned desks from us for over 10 years now where the finish looks like the day it was put on!

Matte finishes also utilise Danish oil and while the additional barrier is not quite as extensive as a multiple coat gloss finish, they tend not to require any additional coats of oil unless the piece is left in direct sunlight for its entire life.

Chopping Boards and Serving Platters

Our timber chopping boards and serving platters are also finished with grapeseed oil so they are completely food safe. However, to keep your board/platter in the best condition, we advise you adhere to the following simple rules:

Things You Should Never Do:

  • Never leave your cutting board/serving platter soaking in water. Over time the water will expand the wood fibres and crack the wood
  • Never let blood from meat pool on the wood for long periods so that it soaks in
  • Never put your cutting board/serving platter in the dishwasher

Cleaning Your Board:

  • Sprinkle the cutting board with coarse salt
  • Using half a lemon with the cut side down, scour the surface, squeezing slightly to release the lemon juice as you go
  • Let sit for 5 minutes, and then scrape the gray, dirty liquid into the sink and discard
  • Give the surface a final rinse with a clean wet sponge
