Sculpture

This page showcases some of our completed sculptural pieces.

A Simple Clothes Peg

A proof of concept for a much larger future bench, this 300mm long clothes peg is made of ironbark with emerald green resin accents and has a brass spring.

Baby Feet and Hands

Two burl pieces frame a very personal piece, created for a good friend to immortalise the plaster casts of his son’s hands and feet. Black resin makes the gold plaster casts really pop.

Just Beechy

Sometimes timber tells you what it wants to be. This huge chunk of Queensland Beech definitely wanted to be a sculpture! Mounted on a slice of peach tree, this hundred year old piece of Beech completely changes depending on which angle you view it from. So, it’s three sculptures in one! This piece is for sale by contacting us directly here.

The First Island Series (2017)

A limited series of 7 original and unique "Islands" made from Coolabah, Red Gum and Blackbutt burl slices, surrounded (and in one case, not surrounded) by resin oceans. These islands each come with a certificate of authenticity signed and dated by the artist. The final piece is available for sale by contacting us directly here.

"5"

Created as a fifth wedding anniversary piece for a client, this reclaimed ironbark wharf pile represents the husband and wife with five lines to represent five years of marriage. The inlay is pine and Tasmanian Oak with acrylic accent inlays.

No Ivory Here

A fourteenth wedding anniversary present for the artist's wife, this simple elephant paperweight is the best he could come up with for the traditional wedding gift of “ivory” which shouldn’t be removed from elephants anyway.

Out of the Fire

This burl was cut by a friend from a tree that burned in a bushfire a number of years ago. Once the burned bark was removed, the burl itself emerged mostly unscathed. It appears to float over a burned merbau base that symbolises the tree it came from and freely rotates so it can be seen from any angle.  A singular piece standing 1,300mm tall, this burl is inlaid with resin and glitter and polished to a high gloss. It can take pride of place in any home. This piece is for sale by contacting us directly here.

Azure Blocks

Blue resin polished to a high gloss are combined with reclaimed hardwood fence posts make the azure blocks really stand out. They can be displayed on almost any face, on their own or as a pair, making them beautiful and versatile. This item is a special commission and is already sold. However, if you would like something similar, please get in touch here.

"The Wall"

This is a very personal piece to Matt Wilson, owner of Tangerine Unicorn Design and is based on the Nicholson Wall sculpture designed by architect Ben Nicholson for John Paul Getty and installed at Sutton Place in Surrey in the UK. The original was constructed from white marble by Matt's grandfather and this timber version was a birthday present for his father. It's identical in size to the small scale marble marquee that sits proudly on the mantlepiece in his parents' house. It's constructed from Australian red gum, mounted on a base of camphor laurel and finished in Danish Oil.

"Flame"

A truly "found" item, this flame shaped piece of driftwood from Cairns has been mounted on a Red Gum and opaque blue resin base to represent the junction between sea and land.

Kookaburra Mount

This beech mount was designed specifically for this awesome ceramic Kookaburra. Intended to reflect the fence posts that these lovely native birds like to sit on, it has a hidden magnet to hold him firmly in place.

Copper Twist

A seventh wedding anniversary present for the artist's wife, this reclaimed hardwood fence post is twisted and wrapped in copper wire.

Fence Post Spike Sculpture

Carved freehand from a reclaimed fencepost, this "spike" oozes character and is perfect for a sculptural piece or as a holder for jewellery.

Resin and Redgum Triptych

This three-panel sculptural series is constructed from ironbark and tinted resin. It was originally an experiment in how to colour resin and fill in the ragged edges of a termite eaten piece of timber but ended up working so well that the panels were finished in danish oil and it was put on display.

Wedding Candy Resin Blocks

Wedding candy set into clear resin to create a permanent reminder for the bride and groom of their happy day.
